TerraGo Blog
Of the many questions I get, many ask about the relationship between Adobe and TerraGo. The two companies have a relationship that goes back more than a decade now that has revolved around the delivery of geospatial and technical information to people in the field. We've recently expanded the breadth and depth of this relationship along different fronts, as reflected in a recent TerraGo press release.
Part of the impetus for deepening this relationship is the impending release of Acrobat X. With X (or 10), Adobe will stop selling Acrobat Professional Extended which had a number of geospatial PDF creation tools. Read more in Adobe's FAQ. We'll be picking up the ball and running with it from there.
Adobe is not withdrawing support for geospatial PDF! They are simply leaving it to third parties such as TerraGo, Esri and others to create geospatial PDF, and will provide a baseline functionality for their consumption in Acrobat and Reader. In fact, I'll be giving an overview of geospatial functionality in Reader and Acrobat X at MAX 2010 at 12:30 on Wednesday 27 October in the Community Theater and will be in the Acrobat X Test Drive lab. The future for geospatial PDF in general and GeoPDF in particular has never been brighter!
