Note to TerraGo readers: I originally wrote this post for GISCafe.com and it appeared on 10/14/11. I'm re-posting here for your benefit.

The defense and intelligence community marked major achievements this year. Clearly, investment in GEOINT technology coupled with enhanced interagency processes have been instrumental in this success.

Unfortunately, domestic fiscal challenges also reinforced another requirement for the D&I community: it must not only process the staggering increase in imagery and deliver relevant GEOINT into the hands of the warfighter, but also maximize ROI on existing enterprise geospatial investments.

Although today’s warfighter is the most sophisticated sensor in the world, he cannot be expected to be a GIS expert. From virtually any mobile device, warfighters need access to interactive, compact, portable and secure GeoPDF® maps and imagery and the ability to easily make georeferenced updates using notes, audio, video, Web services or other information in connected or offline environments. When armed with the most up-to-date GEOINT, warfighters can collaborate peer-to-peer in the field or with Command to produce more relevant, current products that enable better decision making.

Now as never before, the D&I community needs affordable, tested, supported COTS solutions to ensure that it continues to meet mission needs and increase the return on its geospatial investment through greater organizational efficiency, productivity and responsiveness.

At GEOINT 2011, we will showcase efficient solutions with our partners that allow anyone to produce, access, update and share geospatial information with anyone, anywhere. In addition, we will highlight how GeoEye will offer TerraGo’s GeoPDF production capabilities in the next version of its EyeQ online access platform. Be sure to check out demonstrations of this capability in both the TerraGo booths (#567) and GeoEye (#413).

See you in San Antonio!
