A Lesson Learned at GEOINT 2016 – and Now a Year Later – About TerraGo Magic

John Timar remembers being approached by an Army officer at GEOINT 2016 in Orlando, Florida -- before the official launch of TerraGo Magic

"He focused on doing nautical charts, mapping, Riverine stuff, and a week before GEOINT 2016, he hired an integrator to develop a mobile app for him to the tune of millions of dollars a year,” said Timar, TerraGo’s Vice President of Worldwide Sales. “I was showing him (plans for) TerraGo Magic, and I said to him, ‘Let me guess, you want on-line, off-line maps? You want GPS accuracy? You want forms to minimize human error? You want smart forms? You want tasking, interaction with the field? You want collaboration?’ "

Timar went on and on, and each time the engineer nodded “yes, yes, yes.”

“I said, ‘You want all these things, and you could have the app today with TerraGo Magic. These integrators are going to take six months to a year, and you’re going to waste a lot of money.’” The Army officer was impressed with these new insights and ultimately sent customers to TerraGo. 

Timar, Scott Lee, TerraGo’s Director of Federal Sales, and Bryan Burns, a sales engineer, are back at GEOINT 2017, the largest annual gathering of geospatial professionals in the world. If the Army engineer or anyone else looking for an easy-to-build, easy-to-use mobile app walks up to Booth 1567 this week, they can show them R3, built for reconnaissance, response and recovery missions by using TerraGo Magic’s fast-maturing no-code platform.

They can see how TerraGo Magic enables customers to build apps tailored to their needs with web services, custom map products, imagery, forms and workflows. And they can get a straight dollars-and-cents answer to potential savings.

“We can save the government a lot of money in mobile app development, and in personnel involved in mobile app development giving them user-defined apps, where the user can get involved in the discussion,” Timar said.

On Monday, Lee – who is attending his 10th GEOINT – said that other companies have worked to catch up to TerraGo Edge’s capabilities, but “because our mobile technology has moved so fast with the addition of TerraGo Magic, I still feel like we are way ahead of the curve.

“People who have to realize a return-on-investment (ROI) are picking up our technology a lot quicker. The oil and gas industry and the energy sector in general are all over our technology because of the ROI. It’s a complete digital transformation. You no longer have to use a clipboard, a grease pencil and acetate over a map.”

Thankfully, at GEOINT 2017, this message now is fully resonating with the conference attendees.
