Tip #3: Open-Platform

There was a time, in the not too distant past, when you could only get a mobile solution through the large backend platform players. These “platform extensions” never displayed the appropriate respect and empathy for the plight of the end user, and are designed to render you into a state of complete and utter dependency on their technology. They were once the only show in town, but the times have changed; and, what was once a strength is now a liability.

In order to emancipate you and your business from the constant encroachment of the backend player, you need to embrace openness. Open maps, open platform integration, open data exchange…that’s what the game of the future is all about. Do you recall the days of having to get nickel and dimed just to get your data off of a plastic GPS brick into your enterprise software? How about being dependent upon a GIS platform just to get a map of your area? Or, wait, how about having to do your work on unsupported mobile operating systems? Yeah, many people still live in that environment – sad but true. The future is now. In fact, the best way to protect your business in the future is by adopting a mobile software platform that is built upon open standards. With the democratization of data, services, maps, why on earth do you want to live in the old Soviet Block?
