For the last GEOINT 2016 keynote address by a major Intelligence Community (IC) leader, NRO Director Betty Sapp discussed how artificial intelligence and machine-to-machine communications will support next-generation ground systems for the agency.
“We anticipate fielding a ground system able to direct appropriate multi-int collection assets against intelligence problem observables able to redirect assets for digital collection to improve our knowledge and able to learn and adapt, all before any human sees what’s happening,” said Sapp in this Breaking Defense article.
She also discussed how the NRO is going to increase its usage of cubesats in the near future. This will allow the agency to “chase” missions that otherwise would have been too expensive.
