In the following interview, Scott Lee, Director of Federal Programs at TerraGo, discusses the features and benefits of TerraGo’s new Reconnaissance, Response, and Recovery mobile application: R3, available now in the NGA GEOINT app store.

When TerraGo first created their GeoPDF technology, they had one goal in mind: making the collection and dissemination of geospatial and imagery data available to the average user. The natural progression of the company was to make this technology available on mobile devices, but then we decided to take it one step further and make GeoPDF data storing and sharing available to users in a way that’s mobile and doesn’t require a network connection.

R3 was designed to aid users in missions regarding security, emergency response, or disaster recovery, and is the ideal application for these missions for many reasons. The app is critical in situations where traditional communication lines go down, but important information still needs to be captured and shared. As previously mentioned, it’s a native application, not a web app running on a mobile client, so it works even when network infrastructure is down.

R3 is also an intuitive and user-friendly data collection tool, so that emergency responders don’t need to be professional or trained “data collectors” to be able to use it.  Data collection is critical in response and recovery and tools for this function need to be intuitive and user friendly.

The R3 app is the culmination of years of TerraGo’s hard work and innovations. It’s field-tested and proven to provide a robust, location-based situational awareness tool that leverages on-line web services for imagery and maps and the libraries of GeoPDF and GEOTIFF products already available.

Following are some additional highlights from this podcast:

  • More details about R3 and how the app is a result of TerraGo’s 13-year evolution. (:34)
  • Why R3 is ideal for emergency response. (3:42)
  • How R3 helps enhance the Common Operational Picture (COP) for mission success. (7:40)
  • How R3 enhances cross-organizational data sharing and virtualization in near real-time. (10:34)
  • Insights into how TerraGo’s partners are finding that R3 is a sophisticated and advanced solution. (12:20)
